Thirty nine schools in Tucson participated in International Walk to School Day on Oct. 7. The event was designed to increase pedestrian and bicycle safety, improve air quality and health through physical activity.

Santa Clara Elementary handed out prizes for walking to school during International Walk to School Day. In Pima County, thousands of parents and children left their cars home to walk or bike to school. In Arizona, 114 schools took part. There were 41 countries and 3,285 schools in the U.S. Visit the International Walk to School Web site to see which Tucson schools participated.
